1. Non-invasive and sustainable: Unlike some other methods, underwater photogrammetry does not disturb or damage the underwater environment. It is a sustainable approach that allows for repeated monitoring without harming the ecosystem.

2. High-resolution Data Acquisition: Capture high-resolution images and videos, providing detailed information about the structure, composition, and condition of underwater features.

3. 3D Reconstruction and Analysis: Generate 3D models of underwater environments, allowing for precise measurements, volume calculations, and detailed analysis of underwater structures and ecosystems.

4. Monitoring and Change Detection: Monitor changes in underwater environments over time, providing valuable insights into ecosystem dynamics, erosion, and the impact of human activities.

This is dependent on many factors, like camera and lens quality. And for underwater measurements there are other factors like water clarity and lighting conditions.

One camera system
In air the accuracy is claimed to be better than 1 in 200 000. That is 1mm over a survey distance of 200 meters.
In water we have achieved 1 in 20 000 but better accuracy may be achieved.

Multi camera system
This system is more geared to survey smaller area and returning lots of points per square mm. Since the cameras are in an underwater housing and have a fixed distance between them, the accuracy will depend on the distance to the surveyed object. For distances less than two meters the accuracy can be better than 1 mm or even submillimetre given the right conditions.

Our system can be applied to all Field of Work listed on the Area Of Use page. Contact us for more information.

This will dependend on your requirements and needs. This is best answered if we meet and talk it through.

Photogrammetry is the technique to extract geometric information from two-dimensional images or video.

Close Range Photogrammetry is a method where images (or video) are used to construct 3D model of an object.
On shore the camera is normally less than a few hundred meters away from the object.

Used under water the distance is significally reduced, normally under ten meters.

One-camera systems are great when stationary objects can be surveyed from different camera positions.  Artificial markers are often installed on the object to be surveyed. Scaling systems have to be installed to obtain correct dimensions.

Stereo camera systems add extra possibilities, as the surveyed object and camera can move during the data acquisition. One limitation of stereo systems is that each surveyed point obtains only one set of coordinates from each survey position. Dimensions can be obtained from the 3D models, as stereo systems have a known scale based on the distance and orientation of the cameras.

Multi-camera systems add extra to your data when reliability and repeatability are required. Each survey point will have more than one set of coordinates. Using four cameras will give six possible sets of coordinates to all surveyed points from each recording. This adds the possibility to compute the point accuracy and eliminate outliers for each point.

The survey can be performed by onsite personnel. No external mobilization required. Assistance can be provided remotely from shore.

Our system ensures that every point in each 3D model is measured from multiple cameras enabling check of the point reliability.

More details and coverage

Acquire just enough data.

Do not waste time acquiring excess data.

Point the camera at the required survey area.

Press record and compute a 3D model.

Overlapping recordings can be combined to cover larger areas.

The texture on the area of interest is used to retrieve the points to compute the 3D model.

If the area does not have a sufficient texture a laser can be added to the system, projecting a pattern onto the surface.

Every recording can produce millions of 3D points. This will depend on the number of pixels in the camera sensor and the texture on the survey area.

One meter from the object, the system can produce 3D points with +/- 1 millimetre accuracy and precision.

For smaller areas, sub-millimetre accuracy can be achieved.

System and object can move during recording.

Examples are measurement of fish or during installation of structures subsea.

Need images with high dynamic range? Use four cameras with different settings and add them to one High Dynamic Image.

This might solve difficult lighting conditions and when HDR images are required to get optimum results.

Our system has been designed and produced to be easy to install and operate.
